Animal Emergency Hospital of Grand Rapids

Our Commitment
We are committed to a culture of mentorship and continuous learning. We regularly host clinical year veterinary student externs, pre-clinical veterinary student summer interns, and LVT student interns. Our dedicated Training and Continuing Education (CE) teams organize comprehensive training for our staff, including a multi-phase training program with both classroom learning and hands-on skills assessments. Our veterinary assistants are supported and trained to learn everything from restraint to more advanced skills, like intravenous catheter placement over the phases of their training.

LVT Training
We have a large team of LVTs, who are dedicated to growing their skills to deliver the best medicine. Recognizing the shortage of Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), we sponsor full-time veterinary assistants to earn their LVT license through the Penn Foster Veterinary Technology program. These students are mentored by our dedicated LVTs. We also provide mentorship and training for our ER doctors, who participate in a year-long mentorship program, receiving support from experienced colleagues to build their medical, surgical, and leadership skills.

Why Work With Us
Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospitals are rapidly growing referral and emergency practices in Grand Rapids and Byron Center, Michigan. Our Byron Center hospital is a multi-specialty hospital, with frequently added specialty departments. Both hospitals are brand new 10,000+ square foot hospitals with state-of-the art equipment including CT, Ultrasound, etc. We are looking for candidates from all disciplines who are team oriented and motivated towards growth with a commitment to collaborative care and practicing the highest quality of medicine. We are very supportive of individuals looking to grow their skills to advance their veterinary career. We understand the desire to balance professional growth, and success, with the opportunity to enjoy family and friends. We pride ourselves on retaining our highly skilled team, who choose to stay because they feel a strong sense of belonging, and know they make a difference every day.
Our Core Values:
🐾 Compassionate Care: We treat every patient and client with compassion in our interactions.
🐾 Passion: We have a true passion and love for what we do, the patients we care for, the clients and community we serve, and those on our team. We are here for the patients and the clients that love them.
🐾 Teamwork: We are one company, one team. We believe succeeding as one company is as important as succeeding independently. We combine our individual talents with that of the group in pursuit of AESH’s mission. Our actions must be a benefit of the team, and the values of the group should exceed the values of ourselves.
🐾 Positive Environment: We will carry ourselves in a manner that makes AESH a pleasant place to work and do business. We will find humor and laugh daily but never at another’s expense. We will greet and welcome each person encountered with a smiling face and kind word.
🐾 Respect: We will carry out our actions in such a way others will see us as being sensitive to the needs and decisions of clients, AESH teammates, and the referring veterinary community. We will show humility for the role we play in the lives of others and appreciate the similarities and differences of all people.
🐾 Integrity: We will be open, honest and appropriate in all communication. We will manage conflict appropriately by taking issues through proper channels and not discussing them along the way with others. We will support decisions once made. We will be honest with each other, ourselves, our clients, and the community we serve in respect to the way we communicate, operate, and care for our patients and each other. We know that only by being honest will we be able to give the best care possible.

"As someone who has worked as both an assistant and now as a doctor at the Animal Emergency Hospital of West Michigan, I can tell you that the comradery that our team has is unparalleled. Even though we have faced drastic increases in demand for veterinary care, we have constantly adapted and continue to strive to provide great medicine and compassion for those in need. I could not imagine working with a different emergency team, and look forward to what our hospital can accomplish in the coming years. If you want to learn, grow, and shape your future, Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Grand Rapids is the place to be."
- Dr. Michelle Magolan

"I have been in the veterinary profession for over 25 years at this point. AESH is a unique and special place to work and practice. The culture is unlike anything I have ever experienced. From the medical director to the doctor leads, to the office managers, to the shift leads, there is a uniform appreciation and joy in what we do. I love going to work each shift and look forward to seeing my work family. I feel exhausted, yet proud and accomplished, leaving each shift. The people and culture make AESH an exceptional place to practice veterinary medicine. I am beyond appreciative of being given the opportunity to grow and learn with the practice, as the brilliant doctors and skillful staff continue to strive forward. It is a pleasure to be part of the West Michigan veterinary community, and I know the best is yet to come."
- Dr. Ryder

"I jumped right into emergency medicine after becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician and it’s been a great experience. I enjoy the high-intensity and fast-paced environment that comes with emergency medicine as well as the laughter and camaraderie with coworkers. Our team is dedicated to keeping the hospital a positive environment to work in, providing the best patient care and the gold standard of medicine. We are constantly learning, growing, and having fun together!"
- Julie Haga, LVT

"I love animals and always have. My role at this hospital is a dream come true. I enjoy being in an environment where I’m able to continue learning and acquiring new skills applicable to my position. I have grown so much since starting here, and it's amazing to watch my peers do the same. I am just proud to be a member of this team overall. There are no other clinics in this area that do the kind of work that we do."
- Jayce Perysian

"My favorite thing about AESH is that we are always striving to do better for our patients, clients, and our community. I learn something new every day and staff are supported and encouraged to explore new ideas and skills. We are always evolving, which constantly brings about new opportunities."
